Frequently Asked Questions

Can I drop a course and receive a tuition refund?

Yes, you can request a refund before the second session of your course by clicking here and completing the refund request form. All refunds are subject to a 15% or $25 (whichever is greater) processing fee.

Where are HSP courses located? Where is the classroom?

Most HSP courses are at the UA Poetry Center in the Dorothy Rubel Room (1508 E Helen St, Tucson, AZ 85721). The Rubel Room is on the ground floor, on the west side of the Poetry Center (across the breezeway from the library lobby), and is the primary home of the Humanities Seminars Program. Some HSP courses, however, are held in other classrooms on the UA campus or at other locations around the Tucson area. Please see the relevant course for exact location details. If you have any questions or concerns about finding your course, don't hesitate to contact us at 520-621-2492 or hspstaff@arizona.edu.

Are all HSP courses held at the UA Poetry Center?

Most HSP courses are held at the UA Poetry Center, but not all. We also host courses in Oro Valley and other locations around the Tucson area.

Do you offer any courses online?

Yes! Our courses (unless otherwise indicated) are offered in our NEW hybrid format. We have recently upgraded the Rubel Room to allow for high-quality streaming and recording, allowing anyone to now attend live online via Zoom from anywhere in the world! If you miss a class or cannot attend live, we record all course sessions and allow access to them for the duration of the course until one month after it ends. This allows you to enjoy your classes whenever you want to as well!

Is parking free for Humanities Seminars students?

No. Parking on the main UA campus and everywhere around the Poetry Center is not free and is patrolled regularly. Please see our Parking page under the About menu tab for more detailed information.

Where do I park when I come to class?

Typically the best parking for students coming to an HSP course at the Poetry Center is in the Highland Garage. Please see our Parking page under the About menu tab for more detailed information.

Do I need a NetID and Password to access class materials online?

No, you do not need a UA NetID or password to access HSP course materials. We have, however, recently established a new Learning Portal where all HSP course materials can be found. Your login information will be the email you used to register for your class and a password that you get to choose.

What do I do if I forget my Learning Portal password?

This is not a problem. Go here: Forgot Learning Portal Password and follow the steps to reset your password.

When will I receive my course syllabus?

HSP students usually receive the course syllabus shortly after they enroll. At the latest, students will receive the course syllabus on the first day of class. The syllabus for your course can be found on the Learning Portal: http://hsp.arizona.edu/login.

Can I bring a friend with me to class?

Yes, you can bring a guest with you to one class session. Before you bring a guest, don't hesitate to contact us at 520-621-2492 or by emailing hspstaff@arizona.edu so we can confirm that there is enough space in the classroom. Guests who desire to attend more than one class must enroll in the course.

Is my tuition payment to HSP tax-deductible?

No, HSP tuition payments are not tax deductible.

Can I donate to the Humanities Seminars Program?

Yes, you may donate to support the Humanities Seminars Program and ensure the ongoing excellence and stability of the program in the future. You may designate your gift to either the HSP Operating Account (for immediate classroom support) or the HSP Endowment (to ensure the program's long-term stability).
