This course offers an in-depth examination of the Supreme Court’s significant terms for 2023-2024 and 2024-2025, focusing on landmark cases with important legal implications. We will start with the case of Trump v. U.S., which addresses issues of presidential immunity and accountability. Following that, we will analyze Students for Fair Admissions, a case that could greatly impact college admissions at military academies such as the U.S. Naval Academy and West Point, as well as corporate diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives. We will also review key healthcare decisions, highlighting the balance between states’ rights and individual liberties. Additionally, we will discuss major Second Amendment cases, including NY State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen and U.S. v. Rahimi, particularly in the context of felon firearm ownership. In the final sessions, we will explore rulings that restrict the power of federal agencies and examine discussions surrounding First Amendment rights. Finally, we will look ahead to insights from ongoing cases such as TikTok v. Garland and Free Speech Coalition, Inc. v. Paxton. Join us for an engaging academic exploration of these pressing legal issues.
