Karl Flessa

Karl Flessa is Professor Emeritus of Geosciences at the University of Arizona.  He has been studying the conservation biology of the Colorado River’s delta since 1992, and is a founding member of the Colorado River Research Group.  Since the delta “pulse flow” of 2014, he has been managing the binational science team that monitors the biological and hydrologic effects of restoration flows.

Jay Quade

JAY QUADE completed his graduate studies at the universities of Arizona and Utah and joined the faculty at Arizona in 1992, where he is currently a full professor. His interests are in low-temperature geochemistry and paleoenvironmental reconstruction. He has worked worldwide documenting the evolution of climate and landscapes over the past 60 million years, including the context of early hominids in Africa.

Jessica E. Tierney

Jessica E. Tierney is a paleoclimatologist and and UA Associate Professor of Geosciences. She specializes in reconstructing past climate change using molecular fossils and statistical techniques. Dr. Tierney is an American Geophysical Union Fellow and medalist, a Packard Foundation Fellow, and a lead author on the upcoming IPCC sixth assessment report.

Joellen L. Russell

Joellen L. Russell is an oceanographer and climate scientist, a UA Professor in the Department of Geosciences, and the Thomas R. Brown Distinguished Chair of Integrative Science. Dr. Russell’s research uses global climate and earth system models to simulate the climate and carbon cycle of the past, the present and the future, and develops observationally-based metrics to evaluate these simulations. Prof.

Peter Kresan

PETER KRESAN taught the introductory geology courses in the Department of Geosciences at the UA for 25 years. He has explored and photographed the Colorado Plateau for more than 40 years.

George Davis

GEORGE DAVIS is Regents' Professor (Emeritus) in the Department of Geosciences, and Provost Emeritus of University of Arizona.  His academic passion focuses on field-based research on tectonics and mountain building, including earthquake geology and geoarchaeology.   Liberal arts education has been a core value for George, who received an honorary degree from Carleton College in June 2012.  Above and beyond his teaching and research responsibilities, he currently is the President of the Geological Society of America.

Jonathan Overpeck

JONATHAN OVERPECK is a climate scientist and founding co-director of the University of Arizona’s Institute of the Environment, as well as Professor of Geosciences and Professor of Atmospheric Sciences. He has published over 140 papers in climate and the environmental sciences, and recently served as a Coordinating Lead Author for the Nobel Prize winning UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Fourth Assessment (2007).
