Charles Tatum

Professor

CHARLES TATUM is Emeritus Professor of Spanish at the University of Arizona. He served as Dean of the College of Humanities from 1993 to 2008. Tatum has authored or edited several books and many articles on Latin American and U.S. Latino literature and popular culture. He is the cofounding editor of the journal Studies in Latin American Popular Culture. Most recently, he edited the three-volume Encyclopedia of Latino Culture.

Lanin Gyurko

Professor

LANIN GYURKO is Professor of Latin American Literatures and Cinema Studies in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at the University of Arizona. His scholarly output has appeared in prestigious journals throughout the world, and he is the author of eight well-received books. Dr. Gyurko has written on film and literature, especially on Hitchcock and his impact on national cinemas and leading writers in Latin America.

Melissa Fitch

Associate Professor

MELISSA FITCH is an Associate Professor of Spanish and Portuguese. She is editor of the journal Studies in Latin American Popular Culture (University of Texas Press), author of Sides Dishes: Latin/a American Women, Sex, and Cultural Production (Rutgers UP, 2009), and author of the forthcoming “Global Tango: Travels in the Transnational Imaginary.” She has received three universitywide teaching awards at UA and was a Fulbright scholar at the Chinese University of Hong Kong during 2011-12.

Malcolm Compitello

Professor; Department Head and Program Director

MALCOLM ALAN COMPITELLO is Professor of Spanish and Head of the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at the University of Arizona. He also directs the Humanities Seminars Program.  He has been teaching international detective fiction since the early 1980s, directed one of the first dissertations at an American University on Spanish detective fiction, and has spoken and written widely on this subject.
