Karen K. Seat is Distinguished Scholar and Head of the Department of Religious Studies and Classics at the University of Arizona, where she also directs the Religious Studies Program and the School of International Languages, Literatures, and Cultures. She specializes in U.S. religious history, American evangelicalism, and gender studies, with particular attention to the intersections of religion and politics. She is the author of “Providence Has Freed Our Hands”: Women’s Missions and the American Encounter with Japan and co-editor of A Marginal Majority: Women, Gender, and a Reimagining of Southern Baptists. Her current book project, Free Market Family Values: The Rise of Neoliberal Christianity in the United States, examines conservative Christians’ engagement with modern American politics.
