Join Professor Soren for a personal online course showing the relationship of Art History and Cinema and featuring films such as Fritz Lang’s Metropolis and Alfred Hitchcock’s Saboteur. In addition there will be a special live visit from Rick Polizzi, winner of 3 Emmys and producer and director of The Simpsons discussing how television animation is created. This course combines lectures, innovative comedy, art history, film and special guests to create a unique Seminars experience.

Pre-Recorded Online Course Format with Live Q&A Sessions

  • All classes will be delivered online via pre-recorded class videos featuring Professor Soren.
  • Professor Soren will host weekly Q&A/Discussion sessions with students followed by a movie screening. Live Q&A sessions and movies screenings will be held via Zoom on the listed course dates (September 23, 30, October 7, 14, 21, 28, November 4, 18, December 2, and 9, 2021 from 3:30 – 5:30 PM – AZ Time).

Meet Your Instructor

Regents Professor

DAVID SOREN is Regents Professor of Anthropology, Classics, and Art History. He is a Fellow of the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies. He was named Honorary Italian Citizen for his contributions to Italian archaeology and Honorary Philhellene by the Greek Orthodox Church for his work in Cypriote archaeology. He has also been named a Successor Generation Scholar by Oxford University and is the 2018 winner of of the Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching Award from the Archaeological Institute of America.
